5 Simple Tools I Reach for Daily

Every witch’s practice is unique. Some of us love shelves lined with jars and tools, while others prefer keeping things simple and subtle. For me, the heart of magic is in the everyday — little touches that remind me to pause, breathe, and move with intention.

These are the five items I find myself reaching for almost daily. Each is humble, practical, and quietly magical in its own way.

Small Marble Mortar & Pestle

There’s something grounding about the rhythm of herbs being crushed by hand. My little marble mortar and pestle sits right on the kitchen counter, ready to transform rosemary, lavender, or salt into blends for cooking, cleansing, or spellwork. It’s such a small ritual — but one that feels steadying and powerful every single time.

Incense Matches

These are my favorite secret weapon for shifting energy in an instant. One strike, and you’ve got both a flame and the soothing fragrance of incense. I light one after tidying a space, before journaling, or when I need to soften the energy around me. The fragrant smoke always signals to my mind and spirit: it’s time for magic.

Assorted Herbs

Herbs are the backbone of my practice. Chamomile for calming, cinnamon for prosperity, rosemary for protection — nature always has something to offer. I keep little jars of them nearby so I can add them to tea, simmer them on the stove, or tuck them into charms. They’re a reminder that magic is growing all around us, waiting to be used.

Small Cast Iron Cauldron

A tiny cauldron might be the most “witchy” tool on my altar, but it’s also one of the most versatile. I use mine for burning herbs, holding offerings, or as a centerpiece of ritual space. Its sturdy weight feels like an anchor — something steady to hold the heart of my practice.

Colorful Chime Candles

These little candles are perfect for quick, intentional moments. I choose green for grounding, yellow for creativity, blue for peace — or simply light whatever color feels right in the moment. Sometimes, one small flame with purpose is enough to shift the day. I keep mine stored in repurposed food jars, each candle ready to be chosen when needed.

Magic doesn’t need to be extravagant. These everyday tools remind me that it’s intention — not expense or complexity — that makes a practice powerful. Find the items that speak to you, use them often, and let them become part of your rhythm.
